Gabby Agbonlahor makes embarrassing claim about Sheffield United’s players after Arsenal

As if it can’t get any worse for Sheffield United and supporters, we’ve not got pundits claiming they’d get into the XI ahead of this set of players.

The Blades succumbed to another heavy defeat in North London as Arsenal cruised their way past United to win 5-0. It was another blemish for Paul Heckingbottom, who is now fighting for his job with Chris Wilder apparently close to a comeback.

And hammering another nail in the coffin for United, former Aston Villa man Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed we are so bad, he’d get into the team.

Agbonlahor claims he’d get into Sheffield United team

Speaking on TalkSPORT alongside Jamie O’Hara, Agbonlahor slammed United’s players as ‘having nothing’ and said given a month’s training, he’d be in the team.

“They’re on course to finish on four points and with 120 goals conceded if they carry on like this. The team’s not good enough, it’s not the manager, it’s they players. The team’s probably top ten Championship players. We talked about it off air, surely fans are thinking let’s have a go,” Abgbonlahor said.

“I’d get in this Sheffield United team. Give me a month’s pre-season and I’m getting in this team.”

Agbonlahor enjoyed a successful career with Villa which included a short loan spell with Sheffield Wednesday as well.

And that’s on two fronts. One, that Agbonlahor feels he could get into our team at 37 and having not played for however long now.

And secondly, and probably more importantly, embarrassing for this current crop of players to be mocked, basically, by a pundit from TalkSPORT of all places.

If anything is a wake up call to just how bad we’ve got then this is it. Being mocked by a former pro and essentially told you are not good enough to play PL football will sting for these Blades players.

Agbonlahor is being a bit tongue-in-cheek with his comments. But there is a serious message here as well for United’s squad in that they simply have to do more on the field.

Quite how long this can carry on under the current manager, is all down to Prince Abdullah now.
