Sheffield United were hammered by Arsenal this afternoon in what could be Paul Heckingbottom’s last game in charge.

The Blades boss is reportedly on the verge of being given the boot and replaced by Chris Wilder, who led the team to a similar woeful run the last time United were in the PL.

United, riddled by injuries, were simply nowhere near as good as Arsenal and it showed.

But speaking to the BBC, Heckingbottom felt his team were also out-fought, which will be a big disappointment.

Heckingbottom unhappy with ‘really poor’ Sheffield United

Speaking in his post-match interview for the BBC, Heckingbottom was unhappy with how his players folded.

“I think the first half to the second half was chalk and cheese. Although Arsenal had a lot of the ball in the first half, Wes [Fotheringham] only had one save to make. Second half the goals were really poor,” Heckingbottom said.

“They out-fought us as well as out-played us in the second half. That’s what good teams do, they have the physicality as well. We know we are down to the bare bones.”

Sheffield United News View: Blades run out of puff

As well as being not good enough to compete right now, this Sheffield United side is also not fit enough and doesn’t have the squad to cope with such games.

The Blades are well and truly in the mire at the moment and just look like a team running on fumes.

A change will likely be made by the board and it’s a sad way for Heckingbottom to go out really.

He deserves a whole lot of credit but at the end of the day, things have gone woeful since he took us up and he’ll now pay with his job in all likelihood.
