According to reports from Sky Sports, Everton want to sign Antonee Robinson this summer as they bid to outdo Sheffield United in the transfer market.

Robinson is a man in-demand heading into the summer window. A fine season with Wigan – despite their relegation – has seen the USA star’s stock rise.

Indeed, just this week it appeared a move to Bramall Lane was edging closer, with United apparently seeing a bid in the region of £2m accepted for the left-back. However, since then, Fulham, along with Everton, have emerged as contenders for the Wigan ace.

Robinson has spoken this week of wanting to move somewhere to play. He has said it ‘is not in his nature’ to go and play second-fiddle.

The question to ask then, really, is why is he considering a move to any of the three clubs mentioned in this article?

This isn’t a dig at Robinson in any way but is he really expecting to come in and be first-choice left-back in any of Fulham’s, Everton’s, or United’s squads?

The answer is surely a resounding no. It’s great for him to have confidence but he has some serious competition to dislodge.

At Bramall Lane, Enda Stevens was superb. Not only that, but the position is a left wing-back, not simply a left-back.

At Fulham, Joe Bryan has just scored twice to send the Cottagers back to the Premier League. While at Goodison Park, Carlo Ancelotti is not dropping Lucas Digne, who is, in my opinion, one of the better attacking full-backs outside the top four in the PL.

So, while Robinson would represent an excellent signing for whoever does land him, he does find himself in a bit of a situation.

Whether he is good enough to back that confidence he has up, remains to be seen.
