Emmanuel Dennis continues to struggle, Sheffield United had lucky escape here

The rumour of Emmanuel Dennis being on Sheffield United’s radar was one that didn’t seem to go away during the summer last year.

Dennis, then of Club Brugge, had caught the attention of a number of European clubs with a few eye-catching displays, including a brace against Real Madrid in the Champions League.

A number of clubs were said to be keen. Walfoot claimed Sheffield United were leading an £18m race for Dennis, while TeamTalk had claimed in the summer that Arsenal and Leeds were also in the hunt.

However, United, along with those other clubs mentioned, will no doubt be delighted they didn’t pursue that deal.

My Revenge On Ben Foster

Aside from the fact Dennis reportedly spat his dummy out at being asked to sit alone on the club’s coach, on the football pitch, he’s hardly pulled up any trees either.

Sheffield United got away with not signing Emmanuel Dennis

Dennis continued to play for Brugge into this season, despite seemingly wanting out of the club. But his record was dismal. Zero goals registered, before securing a January loan move to FC Koln.

Since then, things haven’t exactly caught fire either. Three appearances in for the German side, and Dennis has still to hit the back of the net.

So while there’s an argument that some of Sheffield United’s summer signings haven’t quite worked out as well as hoped, it’s safe to make the assumption we can be glad we didn’t land Dennis.

Whether Dennis can eventually get back to the heights which caught the attention of those aforementioned clubs remains to be seen. But, for now anyway, those interest Premier League parties will probably be quite happy they didn’t splash the cash on the Nigerian.
