Chris Wilder has moved to put to bed any notion that John Fleck could be available to leave the Blades.

The Scottish midfielder has been instrumental for Sheffield United this season. He’s scored five goals already, having been given licence to push on further in by his manager.

His form has apparently caught the eye of Arsenal. Rumours throughout the January window linked Fleck with a move to the Gunners before the end of today.

However, after footage emerged of Fleck saying he wasn’t going anywhere yesterday, Wilder has now moved to quash that talk further.

“He’s never been made available by us, not previously, not now. I want him to be a lifer at Bramall Lane. It’s that simple,” Wilder said ahead of the trip to Crystal Palace this weekend. (Sheffield United Twitter)

Wilder’s comments seemingly finally put to bed any talk of a move for Fleck. The midfielder is one of a number of players the Blades boss wants to sign a new deal at Bramall Lane.

After signing on a free from Coventry City, Fleck has become integral to United’s way of playing. He contributed massively as they romped to League One, while he’s developed further in the Championship and now, the Premier League.

A slight panic over

Talk of Fleck moving away put the fear of god into some Sheffield United fans yesterday. While the signing of Sander Berge was the big news, there was a feeling Fleck might be on his way to fit Berge in.

However, in reality, it was one which was always going to be a surprise. Even the price quoted, around £20m according to some sources, seemed low for a player of such quality.

John Fleck is vitally important for the Blades. Now, with Berge confirmed, the midfielder at United is looking better than ever.
