New Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder is keen on bringing Derby defender Eiran Cashin to the club as his first new signing.

Wilder is back in the hotseat and is already looking to the January window it seems. And according to reports, Derby star Cashin is on his list.

The 22-year-old centre-back has been impressing for Derby this season and is apparently wanted by the likes of West Ham and more.

However, Sheffield United are also in the mix, with new boss Wilder keen on bringing the defender to Bramall Lane.

According to TeamTalk, Cashin is one of the names on Wilder’s radar as he looks at how he can strengthen the pack during the January window.

Money is once again set to be tight but if United pick up a few results over Christmas, Wilder is expected to be backed to some extent. Loans are the most likely option but Cashin could be available at a knockdown price given Derby’s League One status.

Sheffield United eye new signings to help Wilder

It’s quite obvious that the summer recruitment Sheffield United did was not quite quite up to scratch.

The likes of Benie Traore, Yasser Larouci and Anis Slimane have all struggled to make any impact whatsoever. Vini Souza has struggled in some games, while Luke Thomas looks way off it defensively.

Gus Hamer has shown flashes, while Cameron Archer has also shown bits but is being starved of service in the main.

January, then, is going to be big for United. Whether that be in terms of trying to stay up this season or even planning for next year, it’s important the wheels are set in motion.

Cashin looks like a top young player emerging from the lower leagues. Wilder has a history of getting these sorts of signing to produce and it would be no surprise to see him come in.

Labelled ‘outstanding‘ after being given his debut by Wayne Rooney at The Rams, Cashin has continued to shine and is now a regular in Derby’s XI.
