Chris Basham reveals what he told Rhian Brewster before Nottingham Forest

Sheffield United club legend, Chris Basham, has revealed what he told Rhian Brewster before the game with Nottingham Forest, and explained why he is backing the youngster to do well.

Brewster has had a nightmare of things ever since arriving from Liverpool for around £20m. He’s yet to score a league goal, with his only goal coming against Carlisle United in the League Cup this season.

Under Slavisa Jokanovic, Brewster has found consistent minutes hard to come by. Further, he’s also been played out of position, having started on the right wing against Forest in midweek.

However, Brewster worked hard at the City Ground and Basham, speaking to Yorkshire Live, believes the youngster is desperate to shine.

“The lads put in a good performance. Rhian came in and had not been in for a while and he felt the pressure. He was sitting next to me in the dressing room and I said: ‘Come on, me and you tonight, we have to perform for ourselves and the team’,” Basham said.

“Sitting next to Rhian, I wanted him to play well and score and I thought he played well. He wants to perform and do well and wants to be in the squad and you see the disappointment in his own mindset. But he kept on cracking the whip and the manager put him in and I think he put in a performance and he needed to do that because if you don’t, where do you go again.”

Brewster to shine at Blackburn?

This is the big question really. Does Jokanovic go with Rhian again and give him some confidence and minutes? Or does he change things up again?

In our predicted XI, we think Ndiaye might replace Brewster. However, Rovers did concede seven in midweek, so Jokanovic could decide to let Brewster off the leash and see if he can get among the goals.

There are nearly 5000 fans travelling to Ewood Park from Sheffield today.

One thing is for sure, and that’s if Rhian Brewster does get on the scoresheet, then it could be the loudest roar the Blackburn fans have heard all season!
