George Baldock has spoken fondly on the Sheffield United fans and admitted it doesn’t take much to get the home support going.

Baldock was one of the heroes yesterday as he won a late penalty to allow United to see off Wolves at Bramall Lane in dramatic fashion.

The Greek international returned from injury to great effect to show just how much United have missed him this season.

And after reports of a player only meeting in midweek, Baldock revealed that the senior players had spoken about giving the home crowd something to cheer.

Speaking to SUTV, Baldock admitted that there had been words said about getting the fans onside.

“Do you know what, people always say to me about trying to rile the crowd up and things like that. But the thing is, when you’re at Bramall Lane, it’s not hard to get the crowd up. All you need to do is run around, tackle, work hard and the crowd will be behind you. That’s what we said in the week, they’ve always be behind us if we give them something to cheer,” Baldock said.

Sheffield United News View: Home form always key at this level

We saw last season how Nottingham Forest effectively stayed up thanks to their home form and it’s going to be just as important for Sheffield United this season.

We witnessed yesterday just what the home crowd can do at Bramall Lane and players like Baldock relish that sort of support.

The scenes when Norwood’s penalty went in will live long in the memory for everyone and as Baldock alluded to further into this interview, the younger players should see that and want more of it.

Players like Baldock will be a big reason why Sheffield United at least put a fight up this season. It was great to see him back, and clearly, he’s one of the leaders behind the scenes.
