Gary Lineker reacts to ‘stinking’ penalty decision in Sheffield United v Wolves

Sheffield United finally got their first win of the season after a much improved second half saw the Blades see off Wolves at Bramall Lane.

Ollie Norwood’s late penalty in the 100th minute ensured a huge three points for the players and manager Paul Heckingbottom, who had been under serious pressure heading into the game.

Cameron Archer had fired United into a superb lead only for Wolves to equalise in the final minute of normal time. But United dug deep, and got a deserved win as Norwood’s pen thumped in off the bar.

The penalty came after George Baldock was brought down by Fabio Silva. And after a VAR check, United finally got to take it with Norwood duly obliging.

However, Wolves will feel the penalty was harsh and following the game, Gary Lineker reacted to the decision, calling the pen call ‘stinking’.

Taking to social media after the game, Lineker was unimpressed with the officials and believes Wolves were effectively robbed once again.

Wolves were on the receiving end of a number of poor decisions against Newcastle and clearly, the agenda against VAR and officials is growing in the league.

Sheffield United News View: Sorry Gary, but we don’t care

Nothing against Lineker from us, but on the balance of things, we simply do not care if the decision was wrong, harsh, or spot on.

United needed three big points and to do it in that way, in front of the Kop, via a player who has given so much to this club, was the ideal way to get the season up and running.

The Blades and Heckingbottom needed this more than ever. With a bit of luck, this will kick on the season and we can look forward to a few more decent days at The Lane.
