£7.5m forward could move to England in January after Sheffield United were interested

Sheffield United will likely have to make some moves in January following the disastrous start to the Premier League season.

The Blades are without a win in nine and that is likely to be ten come the weekend with a daunting trip to Arsenal coming. Indeed, there are reports that Paul Heckingbottom could even be sacked and replaced by Chris Wilder if United lose again.

Of course, the club isn’t flush in terms of funds right now. However, one player who could be available for United to look at once again is Fenerbahce winger, Ryan Kent.

The Blades looked at Kent in the summer but after leaving Rangers, he joined the Turkish giants. But now, he could be on his way back to the UK.

TeamTalk is reporting that Kent is set to move on from Fenerbahce in the January window after struggling to impress.

Kent is said to be wanted by a number of lower level Premier League sides. United, of course, can’t be classed as anything but that sort of team at the moment.

And while there is no specific mention of the Blades here, the fact the club wanted Kent in the summer suggests we could be in the mix again.

Kent shone for Rangers after signing for £7.5m from Liverpool back in 2019.

Sheffield United News View: Too little to late

As it stands, it’s not going to matter who United are linked with in January, as we won’t be signing anyone.

For one, we could already be down and players will simply look the other way and want to find other clubs.

Secondly, if we are on the way down, then there’s absolutely no way Prince Abdullah will fund any further signings, given he has little in the way of what he can invest anyway.

Ryan Kent would have been a solid enough signing in the summer. But right now, he’s not going to be what United need.

If there is a forward coming in, then that player needs to be more like Oli McBurnie. Not simply another small forward to buzz in and around the 18 yard box or wider areas.

Kent, then, will likely land elsewhere.
