Sheffield United travel down to Reading tonight with spirits as low as they have been for some time among the Blades fanbase.
A dour 0-0 draw with Coventry City at the weekend did little to lift the mood after the dismal 3-1 loss at Blackburn Rovers a few weeks back. Slavisa Jokanovic himself was frustrated, although a better second half did at least show some signs of recovery.
Jokanovic opted to change formation for the Coventry game. He went back to the 5-3-2 that so many have clamoured for and on paper, the United players seem more comfortable in. However, it came at a sacrifice, with the Blades looking more solid but struggling to create chances.
Trying to second guess the Sheffield United XI to face Reading is a tough task then at the moment. But, we’ve given it a go anyway and got the latest team news for you here.
Sheffield United Team News
Slavisa Jokanovic confirmed that Robin Olsen will remain out of the team for the foreseeable future with a muscle injury. Wes Foderingham will continue in goal for United.
In defence, George Baldock is out with illness. That should mean Jayden Bogle is given another chance down the right. Although whether that’s as a wing-back or a standard full-back, remains to be seen.
In midfield, there was no mention of Sander Berge again. The assumption has to be he is still not fit, meaning Conor Hourihane, Oli Norwood, and John Fleck will battle it out for the starting berths. Luke Freeman made it back to the bench at the weekend, and he could offer another option.
Up top, Oli McBurnie will miss out again if he is in isolation due to Covid-19 and Lys Mousset is also expected to be absent. Billy Sharp started the last game, but Jokanovic might opt to make a change with the fit again Oliver Burke potentially among the options to start.
David McGoldrick also made an impact against Coventry and could get the nod.
Predicted Blades XI
As stated, it’s near impossible to predict. But the fact Burke came straight back onto the bench suggests he might have a part to play. We all know he’s struggled at United, but his pace could at least give us an out ball and get us high up the pitch.
With Baldock out, we think 5-3-2 is again more likely. Here’s our predicted XI for Sheffield United’s trip to Reading.
