Chris Wilder to Arsenal would not have seemed like a very realistic possibility just a few months ago.

Yet the work Wilder has done at Sheffield United is earning him increasingly more admirers. Under the 52-year-old’s management the Blades currently sit sixth in the Premier League table and just a point behind the Gunners.

Wilder only took charge at Bramall Lane a little over three years ago on the back of United finishing 11th in League One. Two promotions have since followed and his team have adjusted brilliantly to life back in the top flight after a 12 year absence.

It is not such a happy tale in North London where Arsenal fans are growing more and more frustrated with head coach Unai Emery. The 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers at the weekend was the latest in a string of disappointing results this season.

Some supporters want a change and Wilder appears to be a popular choice.

Pundit Tony Cascarino recently voiced this opinion on talkSPORT, saying:

“Man United job, Arsenal job – Chris Wilder? Absolutely.

“There would be a snobbery around football that would go for (Max) Allegri or (Jose) Mourinho. But I’m like; ‘No, I’d rather go with Chris Wilder’.”

And a number of Gunners supporters have backed this view on Twitter.

If the top job at the Emirates Stadium did become available then Wilder is unlikely to be offered it. However, if he continues to impress as he has been then stories like this will only become more common.
