Manchester United loanee Henderson shows team spirit of Sheffield United

The celebrations of Dean Henderson following the 1-0 victory at West Bromwich Albion shows the team spirit of Sheffield United.

Henderson has greatly impressed this season after joining the Blades on loan from Manchester United.

The goalkeeper put in another fine display at the Hawthorns, producing a fine save to deny Jefferson Montero late on and secure another clean sheet.

United manager Chris Wilder praised his players afterwards, telling the Sheffield Star; “the commitment, character and general togetherness of the side was great.”

The way Henderson celebrated at the final whistle typified all of those things. As seen below, the ‘keeper enthusiastically approached the travelling Blades support after the game.

While Henderson is a professional and will of course give his absolute best for United, let’s not forget that the Red Devils are his employers.

Whether or not the 21-year-old ever breaks into their first team is a different matter. But the way he reacted to beating West Brom shows Henderson is fully on board with Wilder’s project.

It is of course Wilder and his staff that deserve credit for getting players like Henderson so committed to the cause. It can become a cliche, but togetherness and team spirit are so important in football.

All the players seem to back Wilder’s plans for the team. This is partly why the club are second in the Championship table with only 12 matches left to play this season.

It is also why with a much smaller budget compared to many others in the division, the Blades are making a genuine promotion push in 2018/19.

Henderson’s parent club may be based at Old Trafford, but for the time being at least his heart is well and truly in South Yorkshire.
