The impressive form of Sheffield United could see many of their best players targeted in the January transfer window.

The Blades have enjoyed an excellent start to their first Premier League season in 12 years. Going into this weekend’s match with Manchester United they are fifth with 17 points.

Not only that but they have the joint most clean sheets in the division after 12 matches. They also have the second best defensive record behind Leicester City.

Manager Chris Wilder has built a team admired and envied by many others in the English top flight. Several pundits have already been linking him with a move away from Bramall Lane.

So it follows that some of his players will also be on the wish list of other clubs.

Which Sheffield United players could be targeted in January?

John Egan

Egan is the subject of the most recent rumour concerning the Blades. Apparently Everton are considering a bid for the defender.

While Wilder’s men have been solid at the back, only the bottom five have conceded more than the Toffees. Which is perhaps why they are reportedly eyeing up Egan.

A product of the Sunderland academy, the 27-year-old is finally getting his chance in the Premier League and excelling.

John Fleck

Fleck was supposedly the subject of a bid from West Ham United last January. The Blades knocked back their £4m (Sky Sports) offer, but it was clear the Scotland international was thought of as a top flight player.

And Fleck’s form since coming into the division via promotion will have done nothing to dispel that. Aside from missing two matches through injury, the 28-year-old has been ever-present in the league.

Fleck is a key part of a three-man central midfield and is the most attacking of the trio.

Jack O’Connell

Another who has previously been targeted by a top tier team and is now playing against them. It’s claimed Brighton and Hove Albion made a £6m move for O’Connell in the summer of 2018.

Part of the defence that has done so well over the past two years, the 25-year-old is now likely to be worth far more than that.

Especially if, as reported, O’Connell gets an England call-up.
