Sheffield United resume their Premier League campaign next week with a trip to Aston Villa, with Chris Wilder’s men looking to secure European football for next season.
The Blades will be confident of getting a result at Villa Park. They’ve already seen the Villans off this season, while last year they chucked away a three-goal lead after winning comfortably at Bramall Lane.
It’s set to be a different experience for the club, players, and fans. Gone will be the bustling atmosphere of Villa Park as everyone gets used to post-lockdown football.
One of the other big changes is the use of substitutes. Chris Wilder, although voicing his concerns on the change, will have the chance to bring on five players, while having nine on the bench.
It could, then, open the door for a number of fringe players at the club to get a chance. In particular, Richairo Zivkovic might well be one who proves the ace in the pack for the Blades.
A case of the unknown that could prove crucial
Nobody is going to pretend that they know how good Richairo Zivkovic will be. In fact, it could even be argued that the Dutchman won’t even make it into the squad of 20.
But, if he is included, then Zivkovic might well just prove a useful squad man for the Blades.
A quick glance at YouTube will inform you he is blessed with electric pace. That could be vital, given that Lys Mousset is the only ‘attacking’ player in the Blades ranks who we’d class as a speedster.
Games are going to come around thick and fast in the next six to seven weeks. Squad rotation, although not something Wilder is a big fan of, could come into play.
That includes the subs, too. We could, then, see Zivkovic thrust into the action if needs be.
The stage is set for someone to step up and be a hero for Sheffield United in the upcoming games. How fitting it could be then to see a player we’ve not even had a glimpse of yet grab the headlines.
