The 2020/21 season has been one of few positives for Sheffield United so far.
The Blades are currently bottom of the Premier League having lost seven of their eight games.
They have just one point, are the second lowest scorers behind Burnley and have the fifth worst defensive record in the division.
Yet it hasn’t all been doom and gloom for the club. These three players have given fans a glimmer of hope in an otherwise difficult campaign.
The Sheffield United players who have impressed in 2020/21
It was a slow start for Berge after making a then-club record move to Bramall Lane in January.
Considered a defensive midfielder, the Norway international took some time to adjust to a more box-to-box role.
But by the start of this term, Berge had stepped up and has been the only person making driving runs from midfield. A real talent.
There have been a few “what if” moments this season, but Egan’s controversial red card in United’s second game against Aston Villa is a big one.
The Blades played from the 12th minute with 10 men and were only just beaten 1-0 by Villa. Would that have happened with Egan on the pitch?
Defensively they have struggled without the injured Jack O’Connell, but at least the Irishman has been consistently solid once again.
Burke’s arrival from West Bromwich Albion was fairly unassuming, part of a swap deal involving Callum Robinson and £3m from the Baggies (Sheffield Star).
Highly rated as a youngster, now aged 23 the forward’s career hasn’t quite taken off as many expected.
Yet when seen upfront in a United shirt, his pace and direct running has caused several defences problems. Not least Arsenal’s, with David Luiz lucky not to be sent off when he pulled Burke back after being caught in possession.
