AC Milan are interested in signing Sander Berge from Sheffield United this summer.
That’s according to Italian publication Tuttosport, who claim that Milan believe they can land Berge in a cut-price deal.
It’s as the Serie A club try and find a replacement for Soualiho Meite. Meite has spent this season on loan at the San Siro, but is expected to return to parent side Torino ahead of next term.
Apparently the Rossoneri believe that can sign Berge for just £10m because of the Blades’ relegation from the Premier League.
If true, that would see the 23-year-old leave Bramall Lane for less than half the £22m United paid for him just 18 months ago.
Lazio are also thought to be keen on Berge at this price. Yet in truth, most clubs would be considering how highly sought after he is.
The midfielder has been linked with a host of top flight sides in England, including newly crowned champions Manchester City and Liverpool.
Will Milan sign Sander Berge?
They might, but they won’t be getting the Norway international for £10m.
Yorkshire Live reports that sources in Italy have got this figure completely wrong.
Berge does have a release clause and this has dropped since the Blades were relegated to the Championship.
However, interested parties will now be able to sign the midfield ace for £35m. It would have been £45m had United avoided the drop.
Unless the Italian club are willing to pay more than three times what they thought they could sign Berge for, then this deal won’t be happening.
But the Norwegian is still very likely to be leaving South Yorkshire this summer. Yet it will only be to a side willing to stump up his £35m asking price.
