Why Lys Mousset may miss out for Sheffield United against Leicester today

Sheffield United fans might have to wait that bit longer to see Lys Mousset in the starting XI, according to Chris Wilder.

The French striker has been missing all season but made his return off the bench last weekend at West Brom. Mousset, who scored six goals last term, missed a golden chance to level for United in the dying embers of the game.

Ahead of this weekend’s clash with Leicester City, a lot of United fans are hoping Mousset will be given the nod from the start this time out.

However, Wilder, speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the visit of the Foxes, hinted that ‘Moose’ may have to make do with a place on the bench for now.

I wouldn’t say so with the amount of time he has had out. He had two or three months out and played very few games in pre-season and has missed the first nine games of the season,” Wilder said. (Quotes via Yorkshire Post)

“But he is getting there. He’s an important player for us. His assists and goals are an important addition to what we need to win games.”

Mousset made an instant impact last week at The Hawthorns and with the likes of Oli Burke and Rhian Brewster now in the squad, the Blades have genuine attacking threat and pace at the top of the pitch.

Wilder, then, will be hoping today isn’t another blank for his out of form side.

Mousset vital but important we don’t rush

We saw last season how important Mousset can be. His goals, energy, speed, and composure in front of goal proved essential to the cause.

Having him back involved is massive. However, it’s important we don’t rush the Frenchman back into things and risk another injury.

Over Christmas, Mousset is going to be vitally important. If United are to get out of the mess we’ve got into, then having someone like ‘Moose’ to get the goals and be a threat up top, will be crucial.
