West Ham are said to be hopeful of seeing Michail Antonio return this weekend against Sheffield United.
The former Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest man had been in fine form for the Hammers before suffering a hamstring injury a month or so back.
However, the Evening Standard now claims that Antonio is stepping up his recovery this week with the target of being available for selection at Bramall Lane this Sunday.
The news would be a massive boost for the Hammers and a bit of a body blow for the Blades, who would have been hoping for a day off from dealing with someone with the pace of Antonio.
SAKA, ANTONY AND 10 PREMIER LEAGUE STARS HEADING TO THEIR FIRST WORLD CUP
United, meanwhile, have their own injury worries. Rhian Brewster, John Egan, and Sander Berge are all doubts, while it’s unlikely that John Fleck or Lys Mousset will be back in time for the game.
The home clash is vital for the Blades if they are to get their season up and running having still yet to register a win this term.
Bit of a blow but it’s more about United than West Ham
It’s obviously nice when other teams don’t have their best players available but this weekend has to be about what we do and nothing else.
We have to set aside the worry of other teams and what they may or may not bring to the table. Of course, Antonio is a good player and a threat on the counter, but we have to get on with things.
This is a very winnable game for United and one, in reality, we need to be getting something out of if we want to get the campaign going.
