Vinicius Souza risks Sheffield United wrath with insulting comments to teammates

Just when the Sheffield United season and morale can’t get much lower, our Brazilian midfielder has weighed in some with some bizarre comments.

Souza, who was signed in the summer when United sold Sander Berge to Burnley, has been a divisive figure among supporters this term.

After initially looking promising in the middle of the park, his performances have dipped and barring a decent display at Luton, Souza has looked pretty average at best.

But that hasn’t stopped the midfielder from speaking to Flamengo fan channel Coluna do Fla, and in turn, insulting his Sheffield United teammates.

Vini Souza says Sheffield United are to blame for lack of Brazil call

In comments translated by Sport Witness, Souza answered whether he thought he’d be good enough for a call to the Brazil squad. And in doing so, he appeared to suggest he is good enough, but Sheffield United make it hard for him.

“Not because of me, but because of the situation at my club. I think that for the national team it’s a bit of a problem. That’s my opinion. But not in relation to my football. I think that for my football I could [get called up], I really could. But there’s the whole thing, you know.

“My team doesn’t keep the ball much either. That’s very important for the national team. So it’s going to weigh a bit. And the players who went can defend and have the ball, so they can stand out more. And, well, the guys are doing a brilliant job too. So I was really cool.”

Is he being serious?

Hopefully, there’s an element of things being lost in translation a bit here but if not, then this is utterly abysmal from Vini Souza.

How he thinks he is not only playing well for United but somehow good enough for Brazil, is bizarre.

In fact, it’s borderline insulting to his Sheffield United teammates and this one is going to take some explaining to Chris Wilder and the squad if it is correct.

Souza might not have meant what he said or it might have come out wrong. But he’ll need to explain himself regardless back at Shirecliffe.

Regardless, in our opinion, Souza has been pretty poor all season. He goes missing in far too many games and it was little wonder we were on top without him at Bournemouth before being pinned back when he did come at half-time.

If these comments are right, then Chris Wilder will be fuming and in our opinion, he needs binning out the team now.
