Sheffield United boss, Chris Wilder, has piled the praise on Liverpool despite seeing his team lose 2-0 at Anfield last night.

The United manager could only sit back and watch as goals from Mo Salah and Sadio Mane helped the Reds to three points. Despite a spirited performance, the Blades couldn’t quite match Jurgen Klopp’s in-form side.

Liverpool were all over Sheffield United for the majority. But for a disallowed John Lundstram goal and a late Oli McBurnie chance, the Blades never really got close.

And following the game, Blades boss Wilder was keen to point out the one thing he thought Liverpool do better than anyone else.

“We didn’t lay a glove on them. We didn’t do anything that’s got us into this position”, Wilder said (BT Sport).

“But they did all the things…people talk about academy coaches and all this tactical nonsense. They won every first ball, dropped on every second ball, ran forward, and ran back. So when you talk about academy coaches, have a look at this Liverpool side tonight”.

“They still had the desire, the humility to do that, as European and World Champions, and obviously, well on their way to being Premier League champions”.

High praise from Chris Wilder

It will have been a frustrating night for Wilder on the touchline. He wants the best from his team and Liverpool didn’t allow his side to get into any sort of pattern.

Wilder commented further after the game that he ‘loves everything about Liverpool’, and it’s easy to see why.

They ran, pressed, and pummelled the Blades into submission. So much so, that the away side barely got into their stride. Few teams have done that to a Chris Wilder side over the last three seasons, never mind just in the Premier League.

If ever there was a game for this Sheffield United squad to learn something from, then the Liverpool players showed them exactly how it needs to be done at the very top.
