OIi McBurnie might not be everyone’s favourite Sheffield United player ever but another striker, Teemu Pukki, believes he is criminally underrated.
McBurnie has been enjoying a fine season with the Blades this season. Along with Iliman Ndiaye, McBurnie leads the United goalscoring charts with nine goals.
Of course, his form this year is a far cry from the last two seasons. McBurnie struggled for fitness with a number of injury problems, as well as a few distracting off-field issues. But under Paul Heckingbottom, the big Scotland striker has flourished, despite once again being set back due to knocks.
And speaking to the Football Daily YouTube channel, fellow Championship strike ace Teemu Pukki believes McBurnie doesn’t get the credit he deserves.
“I would say McBurnie. I really rate him as a striker. This year he’s shown it as well. He had a couple of harder years but now he’s really up to it. I like him as a striker. It’s hard for the defender for sure and he’s scoring loads of goals as well,” Pukki said for Football Daily.
McBurnie will be hoping to be back in action as United travel to QPR tonight. The Blades number nine underwent a hernia op in the World Cup break, but has also been suffering with an ankle problem.
Sheff U News View: McBurnie proving a lot of people wrong
We’ve always made no secret on this website of our desire to see Oli McBurnie succeed in red and white. Yes, there’s been times we’ve had to question if it would ever work. But right now, that faith looks well placed.
McBurnie has been brilliant this season and he’s looking more like the player Chris Wilder paid around £20m for.
His partnership with Iliman Ndiaye has been key for the Blades. And if he can hit the 15/16 goal mark and keep himself fit, then United should win promotion.
