Sheffield United lost out to Chelsea this afternoon in the FA Cup, losing out 2-0 to Thomas Tuchel’s men at Stamford Bridge.
The Blades made a real fist of things after a week of regrouping and working under Paul Heckingbottom and Jason Tindall. Indeed, but for a shocking miss from David McGoldrick, United might well have taken the game into extra-time.
But it was not to be, despite some excellent performances in the main from some of United’s players. The back three was good given it was yet another new combination, while John Fleck and David McGoldrick were very much at the forefront of everything good the Blades did.
However, it was the performance of Phil Jagielka that caught the eye of some United supporters and fans of other clubs on Twitter.
SAKA, ANTONY AND 10 PREMIER LEAGUE STARS HEADING TO THEIR FIRST WORLD CUP
‘Jags’ has had a miserable week in which his brother has passed away. But he put everything in his personal life to one side today to roll back the years and impress for United.
Fans on social media were suitably impressed with Jagielka’s display, with a number of fans, both in red and white and from other sides, praised the attitude and application of the experienced Blades ace.
Here, then, is what was being said about Jagielka on Twitter.
Massive respect to Phil Jagielka playing today after such a terrible week. Top professional #twitterblades #RIPJags

Fair play to Phil Jagielka for playing today under the tragic circumstances. He’s the ultimate professional must be so hard mentally to concentrate on the job at hand.
