Sheffield United boss Slavisa Jokanovic has confirmed that the club are interested in signing Liverpool defender, Ben Davies, this summer.

Davies has been a target for United for some time now. Former boss, Chris Wilder, was said to be a fan of the defender, before he signed for Liverpool in a move he couldn’t turn down.

Reports recently have surfaced to suggest that Davies is once again on the radar of the Blades, despite the change in manager.

And speaking in his first pre-match press conference this afternoon ahead of the season opener against Birmingham City, Jokanovic confirmed there is interest in Davies.

Confirmed

Jokanovic was facing the media for the first-time proper ahead of a meaningful game. Naturally, talk of transfers was always going to come to light.

And when asked specifically about Ben Davies and another rumoured target, Ronaldo Vieira, Jokanovic answered emphatically.

I am interested in both players,” the Blades boss told Yorkshire Live.

And when pressed further on if players were due to arrive soon, Jokanovic confirmed that deals are close.

People are on their way. We move and are expecting in these next few hours there can be some news. We are in different battles, but I hope we will bring in as soon as possible a new addition into the squad.

Ideal signing

While all the talk this week has been about Vieira’s impending arrival, the addition of Davies would go down very well with United fans.

This is a player who we’ve wanted for a while. Not only that, but it’s a player in a position we desperately need to fill. United are low on centre-halves if we play a two, while if we opt for the back three, replacing Jack O’Connell is essential.

Davies can do both jobs. In essence, he’s the ideal signing for Sheffield United football club.

With a bit of luck, Liverpool will allow Davies to move to Bramall Lane.

And if United land Davies and Vieira, then even if no one else arrives, that’s two very solid additions to an already good squad.
