Sheffield United youngster Zak Brunt impresses Southend fans on debut

As Sheffield United struggled to yet another Bramall Lane defeat against Blackpool yesterday, it feels right to focus more on something a little bit more positive from the weekend.

And that positive is a debut for young midfielder, Zak Brunt. The 19-year-old made the move to Roots Hall just this week. The teenager signing a loan deal alongside fellow Blades youngster, Kacper Lopata.

Southend played Boreham Wood yesterday in their National League encounter, and Brunt and Lopata were both immediately given their full debuts. And while the game ended in defeat for Southend, their manager Kevin Maher was full of praise for Brunt and Lopata.

“Zak showed glimpses of his quality on the ball and ideally we want him on the ball more but that will come once we give ourselves a good platform to play from,” Maher said.

Among the Southend fans, too, it seems like Brunt’s debut went down a storm despite the defeat.

Here, then, is what some supporters had to say about Zak Brunt after his debut performance for Southend yesterday.

Great debut Zak! Looking forward to seeing more on Tuesday
