Sheffield United v Wolves: Predicted Blades XI as Gordon gets FA Cup chance

It’s a welcome return to footballing action for Sheffield United today as the Blades travel to the Midlands to face Premier League side, Wolves.

Paul Heckingbottom’s men are chomping at the bit to play. The Blades haven’t kicked a ball since the 1-0 win at Fulham, as Covid issues completely wiped out the festive fixture list. United, too, are not without their own covid problems ahead of the trip to Molineux.

Heckingbottom has admitted that a number of players are missing. Who they are, remains to be seen, but a number of key first-team players weren’t clearly visible in recently released training photos. Predicting the first XI, then, is harder than ever today.

Team News

There are some good bits of news for United ahead of Wolves and there’s likely to be chances for certain players to stake a claim. Heckingbottom has admitted Regan Slater will be with the squad. He is a wanted man, so could use today as a chance to show what he can do.

Kyron Gordon has also returned from a brief spell with Boston. He is expected to play, and could even get a start if United’s covid problems have affected the back three. Likewise, Rhian Brewster is also back training and might well make a welcome return. Morgan Gibbs-White also misses out against his parent club.

Finally, Sander Berge is expected to start. The big midfielder has been on the bench in recent weeks but could step in today to marshall the United midfield.

Predicted Sheffield United XI At Wolves

It’s so, so difficult to pick who will be involved today. It will depend on numbers and availability really. Essentially, we are making our prediction here based on a few photos and training clips.

Players like Oli Norwood and David McGoldrick haven’t been seen and could miss out. Likewise, key defender John Egan might be another casualty. Here, then, is our best attempt at how Sheffield United could line up at Wolves today.
