Sheffield United are looking to add a new striker to the ranks and their search has now brought them to Milan and Divock Origi.

United are desperate to add a new forward to the squad after selling Iliman Ndiaye. Oli McBurnie has also missed the opening two games of the season through injury, while Rhian Brewster remains out.

Cameron Archer is believed to be a big target for Paul Heckingbottom. However, Aston Villa want a big fee and a complex buy-back clause, meaning a deal is hard to do.

And now, according to The Sun, United will reportedly ask Milan forward Origi if he fancies making the move to Bramall Lane on loan.

It’s claimed that United will be asking Origi to see if he’s up for the challenge of leading the line this season on loan. The Belgian has struggled in Milan since moving from Liverpool, scoring only twice last season in nearly 30 games.

Origi was something of a cult hero at Liverpool. Despite never scoring bucket loads of goals, he hit crucial ones in big games such as the Champions League final. Indeed, Jurgen Klopp labelled the forward as a ‘legend’ and ‘outstanding’ for his contribution at Anfield.

Now 28, Origi must decide if he fancies more first-team football away from Milan in Sheffield.

Sheffield United News View: One to be wary of

For a start, the actual notion that we might sign Divock Origi seems bizarre anyway. He will be on an enormous contract in Milan and quite how we’d pay that is anyone’s guess.

Secondly, despite his crucial goals for Liverpool in big moments, his actual record is pretty dismal.

Yes, he has experience and is probably better than what we have now in the squad. But the reality is that Origi has never been prolific at any stage of his career.

Sure, it would be an intriguing signing and one fans probably can get behind. But our signings have to be right, and there are question marks over this one.
