Sheffield United are preparing to ramp up their efforts to bring in new players in the coming weeks as the deadline draws nearer.

After moving quickly in the last few weeks to sign Gus Hamer, Tom Davies and Vini Souza, all eyes are now on other signings who can come in and help the cause.

Of course, a lot of the focus is on who United will bring in attack. The likes of Cameron Archer and Joel Piroe have been mentioned, among others.

But back in the midfield area, there is a clamour from some fans to see Tommy Doyle make a return.

And according to The Sun, those United fans might get their wish.

The Sun claims that Doyle is keen to rejoin United. The midfielder is nowhere to be seen at City as it stands and is unlikely to get a chance any time soon.

Doyle emerged as a standout player for United last season. After coming in for Ollie Norwood, Doyle cemented himself as a key player in the midfield and never looked back.

United are bound by rules of only being allowed two Premier League loans, so must decide if Doyle fits the plan or not. Faiiling that, a more expensive permanent transfer is likely.

Sheffield United News View: Doyle not the priority anymore

Like most Blades, we’d like to see Tommy Doyle back in red and white and we’re sure he’d do a fine old job.

However, with the signings of Hamer, Davies and Souza, the midfield actually looks a lot better. The problem United have is scoring goals and right now, resources need to be focussed on that area.

A striker is now key and if it means holding off on a move for Doyle until we get that forward in, then so be it.

Doyle is a nice to have really as it stands. If he comes in, then great. But if not, it’s not the end of the world and we simply move on.
