Report: Ronaldo Vieira offered to Sheffield United, he has family in Yorkshire

Sheffield United could be handed the chance to sign Sampdoria star Ronaldo Vieira this summer, according to recent reports.

The Athletic have claimed that Vieira has been offered to United, with Sampdoria keen to move the former Leeds man on.

Vieira emerged onto the scene at Elland Road and earned a move to Sampdoria off the back of his fine form for Leeds. To his credit, he has played regularly for the Italians, appearing 27 times in the 19/20 campaign.

However, injuries curtailed his progress last term. He suffered a number of niggling problems, before a bicep injury kept him out long-term.

Those fitness concerns have led to Sampdoria touting the 22-year-old about this summer. United, along with other clubs, are thought to have been sounded out.

Is Ronaldo Vieira a good fit for Sheffield United?

In terms of pure talent and ability, then yes. This is a player who impressed for Leeds, and just last summer was linked with a move to both Spurs and Everton.

However, those injury problems are concerning. And more so, the fact Sampdoria are openly shopping him rings alarm bells as well. There must be deeper reasons for this, given he’s under contract until 2023.

On the other hand, United need a midfielder. And if Vieira is fit and over his problems and available cheap, he could be a good fit. The Athletic suggests he has family in the Yorkshire area, which could make a return to England appealing.

Slavisa Jokanovic is not fussed where the players come from, or their age, it seems. He just wants them to be of sufficient quality to help this squad.

Vieira, then, could be a gamble worth taking if nothing else comes up in the window. On the flip side, it could well just be his agent trying to manufacture the best move possible for his client.
