Sheffield United to give Ethan Ampadu and Enda Stevens time to prove fitness

Sheffield United duo Enda Stevens and Ethan Ampadu are in a race against time to be fit for the weekend clash with Leicester.

The Sheffield Star reports that both players are being put through their paces this week as Chris Wilder hopes for a defensive boost.

Stevens missed out against West Brom after returning from Ireland duty with a knock, while Ampadu came off against West Ham and failed to recover in time for the trip to the Hawthorns.

That meant another new back five for Chris Wilder, who opted to put Kean Bryan in at left centre-back and Max Lowe at wing-back.

However, Wilder will be hopeful of seeing both Stevens and Ampadu back in the fold this weekend. Indeed, the Blades boss admitted the Chelsea loanee would have started last week, had it not been for the injury.

The Star’s report claims United’s medical team are ‘hopeful’ that at least one of the duo will be fit for the game with the Foxes.

Any boosts will help, Ampadu could be vital

Kean Bryan didn’t really do much wrong last weekend but most people would agree we’d be more comfortable with Ampadu in there.

Especially against a seasoned and dangerous Premier League outfit like Leicester, who boast the likes of Vardy, Maddison, and Barnes in attack.

Wilder didn’t seem too confident on Stevens last week so it would be surprising to see the Irishman back so quick. Ampadu, though, could give the squad a timely boost.
