Sheffield United are apparently targeting a move for West Brom winger, Oli Burke, with reports that a deal could be close emerging over the last few days.
Callum Robinson could be heading the other way in what looks like being a straight swap deal between the two clubs. It would see Burke arrive at Bramall Lane having yet to fulfil the huge promise he showed for Nottingham Forest a few years ago.
Indeed, he has since had spells in Germany, Scotland, and Spain. And such was his talent, he was once compared to Wales and Real Madrid star, Gareth Bale.
The scout who recognised his talent, Scottish FA scout Mick Elliott, once compared him to Scotland’s answer to Bale.
“Yes, he can be Scotland’s answer to Gareth Bale, if you want a modern comparison”, Elliot said. (Daily Mail)
However, since those comparisons and with the way his career has gone, Burke has played down such suggestions, insisting Bale is on a ‘different level’ to him.
“The comparison with Gareth Bale was something they used to say about me when I was a kid. But he’s always been on another level to me. What I need to do is establish myself as Oliver Burke and not as the new Gareth Bale. To do that I need to work hard in La Liga,” Burke said prior to joining Alaves. (Daily Record)
It will be interesting, then, to see if Chris Wilder is the man to finally get the best from Burke.

You would hope that given his experience now in five of the best and most competitive leagues in the world, that Burke would be a more rounded and better player.
Sometimes a player needs a few seasons to find themselves, especially after bursting onto the scene so early as he did with Forest.
With a bit of luck – if the deal goes through – Burke can be an option United have been missing for a while. Quick, powerful, and able to play in a few positions, it could well be a signing that excites the Bramall Lane faithful.
