Sheffield United could be set for another significant injury blow with defender John Egan set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Egan limped off during the 2-0 loss at West Ham and was seen leaving the stadium on crutches. The Irishman has now been left out of the latest Ireland squad for two games in the next two weeks.
And according to reports, there are fears at Bramall Lane that things are worse than United first feared.
John Egan injury could be worse than first thought
According to Irish outlet RTE, Ireland have been looking to United for news on Egan.
It’s claimed that officials at Bramall Lane had hoped Egan’s injury would be nothing serious at first. But as it stands, things are being taken as being worse than first thought and Egan will miss at least the next few weeks.
Egan has been out of form in the main but his loss from the squad will be a massive blow for manager Paul Heckingbottom. The skipper’s absence could open the door for Auston Trusty, who has yet to start a Premier League game.

Sheffield United News View: A big loss despite lack of form
John Egan has taken a lot of stick this season and a lot of it is a bit harsh. Yes, he’s not been giving the best performances in red and white but then again, nobody else has.
That being said, Egan being missing is a massive blow for United. He has been a pillar of this United side for so long and knows the system inside out, that simply replacing him is a tough ask.
Whether or not Anel Ahmedhodzic moves more centrally or Trusty does get his chance, remains to be seen.
But Egan being out is not good news and hopefully, it just a case of missing the international break and nothing else.
