Sheffield United are ready to cash in on Wes Foderingham and sell him before the deadline on Thursday after signing Ivo Grbic.

Foderingham was immediately dropped by Chris Wilder yesterday as Grbic had a debut to forget, conceding five goals against Brighton.

However, Wilder was insistent after the game that Grbic will be his number one going forward and took a thinly veiled dig at the other goalkeepers in the squad, saying he needed someone signed for the medium and long-term as the rest hadn’t signed new deals.

And now, according to Alan Nixon, United will look to cash in on Foderingham before Thursday is a suitable offer comes along.

Writing about Foderingham on his Patreon, Nixon has said that United are willing to accept bids for Foderingham rather than see him walk away for nothing in the summer.

It would mark a sad way for Foderingham to end his time at the club. However, with a deal being on the table for some time and it not being signed, Wilder has had to make quick decisions.

Foderingham bowing out in a way nobody wanted

It’s a bit of a shame to see things end like this but the fact is, Chris Wilder has to look after the club’s best interests.

Foderingham has had time to sign a new deal by all accounts and simply hasn’t put pen to paper. That, coupled with the fact he’s actually been pretty poor this season, has probably made Wilder’s decision a bit easier.

The goalkeeper cut a miserable figure yesterday both as he arrived at the ground and during the game.

Certainly, as long as Grbic stays fit, it looks like we’ve seen the last of Foderingham in a United shirt.

Quite whether someone will consider buying him before Thursday, though, is another matter entirely.
