Sheffield United midfielder, Ollie Norwood, has lauded his teammate Oli McBurnie for putting in the shift he did against QPR last night.
Despite not getting on the scoresheet again for United, McBurnie worked tirelessly at the top of the pitch. He won headers, dropped deep when he could, and linked up well with Morgan Gibbs-White. His standing ovation from the Kop and Bramall Lane was deserved, and even more so after Heckingbottom admitted McBurnie had been throwing up before hand.
And speaking to the press about certain players last night, experienced midfielder Norwood name-checked McBurnie as one of his standouts against QPR.
“I thought Oli Mac was brilliant up there tonight. He led the line, he won his headers and he got us up the pitch. Morgan’s been fantastic since he came in the door and behind that we’ve got Jebbo and Iliman, and it’s going to be vital to have as many players available as possible,” Norwood told SUTV.
Norwood himself was the goal scoring hero last night. The midfield slid one in from the edge of the box from a well-worked corner routine involving Fleck and Baldock.
Our View: Oli McBurnie Right To Win Norwood’s Praise
He doesn’t half get some stick at times McBurnie but last night there can’t have been a person inside the ground who didn’t appreciate what he offered. The big thing is effort, and he gave that in abundance.
But along with that effort, his overall play was great. He linked well on the floor and in the air. A notable backheel to play Gibbs-White through drew gasps from the Bramall Lane crowd, and you could see the confidence oozing a bit more with McBurnie’s overall play.
Most Blades fans are desperate for him to score and do well. But even if he isn’t bagging, if he can contribute as he did last night then United will have a great chance of the top six and beyond.
