It’s looking increasingly likely we have seen the last of Lys Mousset in a Sheffield United shirt, with reports from Italy today suggesting that a move for the Blades forward is imminent.
Claims yesterday from different sources suggested Mousset had a handful of offers on his plate. It’s been reported that clubs in Turkey, Holland, and Italy have asked about Mousset’s availability. However, the most concrete report was that of one from Italy, which said Salernitana were preparing an offer for the Frenchman.
And ahead of United’s trip to Peterborough today, Tuttomercatoweb have now claimed that Salernitana plan to accelerate their discussions with Mousset today. Indeed, it could even mean a deal is in place for Mousset to join the Italian side before United even kick off at 5:30 this evening.
Mousset has fallen down the pecking order at Bramall Lane. After being given a fresh chance of sorts by Slavisa Jokanovic, he has since been banished from the first-team set-up to do his own training. As we know, Mousset has struggled with fitness and off-field issues ever since his arrival in 2019.

It remains to be seen whether United will receive any sort of fee for ‘Moose’. However, his reported £23k-a-week wages being off the bill could help the club.
Our View: Fresh Start For All
This one has gone full circle and it’s now best for everyone if Mousset finds himself a new club and new opportunities.
At the moment, he is simply eating a wage at Bramall Lane and with money once again tight, his salary is something we can ill-afford to keep paying.
There is a plus side to this deal too for the Blades in the long-term. United hold an option to extend Mousset’s contract in the summer. If he does well in Italy, United could choose to trigger that option to ensure whoever buys him is forced to pay a fee.
All in all, Lys Mousset moving on from United is a best-case scenario all around.
