Sheffield United have made what’s been described as a ‘half-hearted’ contract offer to try and keep Jack Robinson this summer.

The Liverpool native enjoyed a superb season with United at the heart of defence. After initially starting the season on the bench, Robinson became key as he kept Ciaran Clark out of contention for most of the campaign.

However, like many others, he is out of contract. And despite United offering him fresh terms, nothing has been agreed just yet between the parties.

And according to The Sun, the Blades’ offer to keep Robinson – who cost just £1m back in 2020 – is not all that. The Sun claims United have offered ‘Robbo’ just a small increase on his current salary.

Business to be done

Robinson is in the same boat as Ben Osborn, John Fleck and Wes Foderingham at the moment. All four have been offered deals, but nothing has materialised just yet.

Paul Heckingbottom looked a semi-frustrated figure as he gave his first interview last week ahead of the new season.

The United boss admitted he’d wanted to keep the likes of Enda Stevens and Billy Sharp around but was forced into letting them go. Clearly, Heckingbottom wants deals for the likes of Robinson and others tied up quickly.

Regardless of those players re-signing, United need a cluster of new signings as well. If any of the aforementioned don’t stay, then it only adds to the wishlist.

Sheff U News View: Robinson would be better signing

Not that we’d claim to know what he’s been offered or why that’s any better than what he might get elsewhere, but surely Robinson stays put?

He’s a key man for United and even if we do sign a few new players, he’s surely going to play a part next season.

If anything, having his long-throw available will be big. But away from that, he’s proven himself to be a good defender who the rest of the players – and fans at times – feed off.

Hopefully, Robinson pens his new deal and it’s just a case of paperwork. But if he does slip the net and move on, then it will be a huge shame.
