Well, that will be that then. Lys Mousset is officially on his way to Italy and is set to leave Sheffield United after two-and-a-half years with the club.
The Frenchman has been tipped all weekend for a move away from Bramall Lane and Paul Heckingbottom himself claimed at the weekend that a deal was in the offing. Salernitana were the name mentioned. The Italian side are currently propping up Serie A, but obviously feel Mousset can do a job for them.
And while there’s no official word from either club as yet, Lys Mousset has taken to Instagram himself to share the biggest hint yet that he’s on his way out of Sheffield United.
Mousset will leave United on loan – for around £330k – having scored nine goals in 54 appearances for the Blades.
However, as many like to point out, he has never completed 90 minutes in English football. Whether he can change that in Italy, remains to be seen.
Our View: Mousset Had To Go
It’s a massive shame because on his day he’s one of United’s best players. But the fact is that he can’t stay fit, whether it be through injury or just general fitness issues.
Everyone knows the off-field problems he’s had. It’s no big secret, and really, it stinks of an unprofessional attitude at times from Mousset.
However, we wish him all the best. If he does well, then great. For now though, it’s a big wage off the books and a player who Heckingbottom clearly didn’t fancy, away from the squad.
