Sheffield United are putting themselves in the mix to be able to sign Chelsea midfielder, Carney Chukwuemeka, according to reports.
TeamTalk reports this weekend that the Blades, as well as Burnley, are ready to move for Chukwuemeka, who is set to leave Chelsea on loan this summer.
The Blues paid £20m to sign the youngster from Aston Villa. However, an inflated squad has left the teenager scratching around in search of first-team minutes.
Sheffield United linked to Carney Chukwuemeka
It’s no secret that the Blades are going to have to be clever in the market this summer. Smart use of funds for permanent deals and then a keen eye on the loan market is going to be key.
Why Chelsea FINALLY Turned A Corner.
This season, United landed Tommy Doyle and James McAtee from Manchester City. Both were roaring successes and Paul Heckingbottom is keen to bring the pair back.
However, McAtee’s form has left City wanting to offer him a new deal and also explore other clubs for him. That would leave a gap in terms of an attacking midfielder for United. And it seems Chukwuemeka is someone the club have identified to step in.
Still only 19, Chukwuemeka is highly-rated at Chelsea. They snapped him up from Villa on a long-term deal but having spent £600m, there’s no room in the matchday squad right now for the midfielder.
The Blades would be able to offer regular football to Chukwuemeka, who will be keen to make his mark.
Sheffield United News View: Potential is there if he works hard
Heckingbottom spoke earlier this month about McAtee and getting him to work hard off the ball. Thankfully, the City man bought into it all and over the course of the season, got better and better.
Chukwuemeka would need to follow suit really. He certainly has the talent. Indeed, Ollie Watkins branded the youngster as an ‘unbelievable‘ player while at Villa together.
For Sheffield United, this is the sort of signing we need to go for. Young, hungry, talented, and from a big club with big expectations.
Certainly, this is one to keep an eye on.
