Sheffield United v Sunderland: Amad Diallo news provides welcome reprieve for Blades

Sheffield United will travel to Sunderland this week and the Blades defenders will be pleased with the news around Amad Diallo.

The Manchester United loan star has been a revelation for the Black Cats this season. However, he missed this weekend’s win at Norwich and there were concerns he’d be out for a while.

For Sheffield United, the idea of facing a fit and firing Diallo is a nightmare right now. Given the current form of the Blades, the last thing the likes of Robinson, Lowe and Egan want is Diallo running at them.

And the Blades defence might have got their wish, with Tony Mowbray confirming that Diallo might miss the game with United.

Why Chelsea FINALLY Turned A Corner.

“I’ve spoken to Amad. He had a scan. There’s no injury, there’s no tear, there’s no damage. The hamstring looks perfect. I think he’s just played…he’s a lad who has never played three successive 90 minutes and he’s played 32 of them or something like that,” Mowbray told the Sunderland Echo.

“His body is telling him. He’s cramping up, his hamstrings are tight, we need to give him a rest, take him off the grass for a few days, let him have a swim, have a massage and a rub down. And in a week’s time, I think he’ll be out there flying again and finish the season strong for us.”

It’s not just Diallo being out either. Sunderland are without key forward Ross Stewart as well as midfielder Corry Evans.

All three are huge players for the Black Cats and it’s no surprise they’ve dipped away a bit since those players got injured.

For Sheffield United, they simply have to capitalise on Sunderland not having a full squad. Diallo’s absence is massive in itself, and it should give the Blades defence a bit of breathing room at least.

Three points is simply a must for United this week. With Middlesbrough expected to win at home, anything but a win would see Boro within a win of overhauling United into second.
