The Serbian coach is said to be angling for a return to England this summer. West Brom also, are said to be keen on bringing him back to these shores.

But with Paul Heckingbottom not announced and once again ruling himself out of the running for the job, it does appear the United board are edging towards an external appointment.

My Revenge On Ben Foster

And replying to a fan question on social media yesterday, Nixon says he’s hearing ‘optimistic noises’ about Slavisa Jokanovic to Sheffield United.

Jokanovic is seen as the ideal man to take over at Bramall Lane. He has two Championship promotions on his CV. And Blades fans are keen to remember the exciting Fulham team he once brought to Bramall Lane.

United had initially put together a five-man shortlist that didn’t include Jokanovic. But shortly after the Crystal Palace loss, were told the club had made their move for the Serbian.

Sheffield United News View: Hopes now up when it comes to Jokanovic, anything else would fall flat

United fans, and us included on SUN, have almost built it up that Jokanovic is going to be the next Sheffield United boss. It’s just what we do as supporters at the end of the day.

He has all the credentials. Promotions, good football, experience, and a strong character are all in his favour. Indeed, that Fulham side who won 5-4 at Bramall Lane was a seriously exciting one.

Anything other than Jokanovic now would be a bit a of a disappointment in all honesty. But in true Sheffield United fashion, don’t be surprised if the club ends up with someone else.
