Sheffield United eyeing Iliman Ndiaye reunion after Marseille disaster

Sheffield United are being linked with a remarkable move to bring Iliman Ndiaye back to the club during the January transfer window.

Ndiaye left United in the summer in pretty poor circumstances at the time. The Senegal forward had looked all set to sign a new deal before turning his back on the club at the last minute and opting for a move to the club he supported as a boy.

However, things have not worked out in Marseille for Ndiaye. A poor run of form, lack of minutes, and a mini spat with Gennaro Gattuso have left the forward looking at his future already.

And according to The Sun, a move back to Sheffield United is one of the options being considered.

According to the report, Everton, Crystal Palace and United are all looking at Ndiaye’s situation in France ahead of a possible move in January.

It’s believed a loan move might be possible, with Marseille and their demanding support base not overly enamoured with what Ndiaye has produced thus far.

For United, a lot could depend on how much money there is to spend and where Chris Wilder has got the Blades to in the table.

Reports this week have suggested United could be the surprise spenders in January, especially if Wilder can guide the Blades to within touching distance of safety.

Ndiaye could well be open to a move back to The Lane and there could well be a sense among some supporters that he owes the club.

Despite being influential in the Championship, Ndiaye’s exit left a sour taste in the mouths of a lot of fans who felt he should have stayed and rewarded Paul Heckingbottom.

Ultimately, Ndiaye’s exit has proven to be bigger than expected and Heckingbottom paid with his job a few weeks back.

A return under Chris Wilder, then, would certainly be interesting.
