Sheffield United and Arsenal became almost synonymous with each other during this summer’s transfer window. The Gunners signed Aaron Ramsdale from the Blades, while Sander Berge was also eyed.

But the link between the two clubs could continue into the summer of 2022 as Arsenal are now said to be eyeing up Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Football.London have claimed that Calvert-Lewin is now the top target for Mikel Arteta and Edu. Everton reportedly value Calvert-Lewin at around the £50m mark, which means that United, if they’ve been smart on this deal, could be set for a nice cash boost.

We already covered the situation surrounding ‘DCL’ in the summer. At that time, it was suggested the Gunners had made initial and tentative enquiries about the England man.

Calvert-Lewin scored 16 goals last season for Everton. He’s already hit three this term in the Premier League, too. The Blades sold the striker back in 2016 for around £1.5m. At the time, Chris Wilder took the decision to sell with the Blades languishing in League One.

Our View: Arsenal becoming quite the business partner

As we’ve stated, hopefully United have a sell-on inserted when it comes to Calvert-Lewin. It would be a huge surprise if we haven’t. If we have, then the club deserves to reap rewards down the line.

Arsenal are becoming quite the club for United. They’ve already handed us circa £30m for a goalkeeper, and could now have to pay us even more money – albeit it will probably come out of Everton’s pocket – for the big striker.

Calvert-Lewin has done exceptionally well since leaving United. Few would have predicted he’d go on to be so good. In fact, a lot didn’t even take much notice when we did sell him.

Ultimately, this is what our academy has to be used for at times. Produce a player, nurture them, and get something back down the line. Hopefully, then, the club receives a nice little bonus in the summer.
