Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has revealed who the club’s “biggest signing” will be this summer.

The Blades are preparing for life in the Premier League after securing promotion from the Championship.

It is the first time in 12 years they will have played in the top flight of English football.

Wilder is already looking to how he can strengthen his squad through recruitment and it seems the goalkeeper is the one role that could prove most crucial.

“It’s such an important position,” the United boss told Football Focus.

“Early on in my managerial career I was all for centre forwards. Not realising that we could score but something was happening at the other end.

“That’s the biggest signing.

“It’s been a huge signing for us this season taking Dean Henderson – a big character by the way – on loan from Manchester United. He’s been outstanding and the clean sheets we’ve had have been the bedrock of our success.”

Wilder says, as reported by the Manchester Evening News, that talks have already begun about re-signing Henderson on loan from Old Trafford.

The ‘keeper himself has made it clear that he would like to return to Bramall Lane, telling the Blades’ official YouTube channel as much after promotion was confirmed.

Henderson certainly has been a huge influence this season. The 22-year-old played every minute of United’s league campaign. Not only that but no other stopper kept as many as his 21 clean sheets.

The Blades also had the joint best defensive record in the division with Henderson between the posts.

So it seems that finally securing the signing of the England Under-21 international will be Wilder’s biggest achievement in the transfer market.

Not that business will stop there of course, but it is good to know the manager will put a large tick in that particular box.
