Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has given an update on the deal to sign Manchester United’s Dean Henderson.
Henderson has been strongly linked with a return to Bramall Lane this season after impressing in 2018/19.
The goalkeeper kept more clean sheets than anyone else in the Championship last term. Henderson also helped the Blades to the joint best defensive record in the division as they secured promotion to the Premier League.
The 22-year-old is currently away with the England Under-21s, but is heading home after a disappointing showing for the nation at the European Championships. They failed to win any of their three group games at the tournament in Italy and San Marino.
“We’d love it to happen. The boy obviously has been making noises and he sees himself playing in the Premier League for Sheffield United,” Wilder told the club’s official website.
“So to get two out of the three who want to make the deal happen is positive.

“I’ve got total respect for Manchester United. We’ve got a fantastic working relationship and we’re in dialogue with them regarding Dean’s future.”
Why Chris Wilder wants Dean Henderson

Henderson is viewed as the long term number one at his parent club. It’s why The Sun claims the ‘keeper wants a new £75,000-a-week contract, despite never having made a senior appearance for the Red Devils.
Henderson has a year left to run on his current deal, with the option of a 12-month extension.
David de Gea is also about to enter the final 12 months of his time at Old Trafford. De Gea is being offered a colossal £350,000-a-week package, yet if the Spaniard rejects this and opts to leave, Henderson will be promoted to first choice.
Wilder is hoping that doesn’t happen, as he wants the stopper to help his side stay in the top flight. After 2019/20, it’s likely Henderson will see his future at a higher level.
