Sheffield United are among the clubs interested in signing Chelsea defender, Jake Clarke-Salter, according to reports.
The Sun claims the Blades are among the clubs keen on Clarke-Salter, who has enjoyed a stellar campaign in the Championship with Coventry City this season. The 24-year-old is a free agent this summer, and both Leeds and PSV Eindhoven are keen on signing him as well.
Clarke-Salter has never quite managed to knock down the door into the first-team at Stamford Bridge. He’s made just two appearances for the Blues, but has enjoyed success out on loan with Birmingham, Vitesse Arnhem, and now Coventry City.
Sheffield United are looking at the free agency market this summer with money set to be tight. Of course, promotion could change that. But even then, Clarke-Salter might well be an option for the club.
Coventry are believed to have already offered a three-year contract to Clarke-Salter.
Our View: Clarke-Salter Ticks Boxes For Sheffield United
In terms of what the Blades need this summer, Jake Clarke-Salter ticks plenty of boxes. He’s a good age at 24 but comes with experience at Championship level already. That, coupled with a good upbringing at Chelsea should see him develop nicely going forward.
On a free transfer as well, the risk is low here and you can see why Paul Heckingbottom has him on his radar.
With a bit of luck, United could be major players when it comes to Clarke-Salter. We do need new defenders at some point, so whether we go up or stay down, this is a player we definitely need to be pursuing.
