Sheffield United legend Billy Sharp will NOT be returning to the club after he decided to sign for Hull City for the rest of the season.

The former skipper has been pushing for a comeback to United after being released in the summer.

Sharp went on Sam Allardyce’s podcast recently to have a bit of a moan about how his time with the club ended, including adding further information that a request to return just to train had been rejected.

With Chris Wilder returning, some fans were convinced Sharp would follow. However, that now won’t be happening.

According to BBC Humberside journalist Mike White, Sharp is signing for Hull City until the end of the season to end any speculation over his future.

Billy Sharp return never made sense anyway

The calls for Sharp to return were understandable in some regard. We were massively struggling as a club it seemed and there was some who wanted him back to simply contribute to the dressing room.

However, in terms of adding to the playing staff, it was always going to be pointless.

There was a reason the club moved on from Sharp in the summer and that’s quite simply because he’s not at the level a Premier League striker needs to be at.

Sure, in hindsight, he’d have done more than someone like Benie Traore. But in the main, the club needed to move on and it looks like we have.

Sharp has always made it clear he wants to continue playing as well and a move to Hull is a big move for him at this stage of his career.

He’ll be itching to score more goals and you can bet your bottom dollar he does find the net for the Tigers.
