Report: Sheffield United keen on signing 'incredible' Premier League player, if budget allows

Sheffield United are among the teams in the Championship who are keen on signing Liverpool defender, Sepp van den Berg.

Van den Berg is on the periphery of things at Anfield despite an impressive 18 months on loan at Preston. The plethora of defensive talent within Liverpool means he faces an uphill task to get into the squad. And now, according to the Daily Mail, Sheffield United are among four Championship clubs keen on the 20-year-old.

Dubbed an ‘incredible‘ young talent, Jurgen Klopp has used Van den Berg before at first-team level and even called him into the training set up ahead the Reds’ season opener against Fulham last weekend. However, Van den Berg is still expected to depart Merseyside.

United are named by the Mail alongside clubs like Watford, Burnley and Blackburn as being keen on the young defender. Preston, unfortunately for them, don’t seem to have much hope of signing him despite their links from that loan spell.

For the Blades, any move to sign Van den Berg will surely rely on outgoings at the club. Paul Heckingbottom said recently that his business was done, so it would need a sale in order for United to fund any move.

Our View: Could Van Den Berg Come In For Max Lowe?

The one position United are well-stocked in is at left wing-back and let’s be right, Max Lowe hasn’t made the most exciting start to life in a Blades shirt the second time around.

Despite Enda Stevens being injured, the Blades still have Rhys Norrington-Davies and Ben Osborn in that position, while both Baldock and the soon to be back Jayden Bogle has filled in there when needed too. There’s also said to be interest in Lowe, so he’s the most obvious sale option.

Ultimately, the Blades are still quite short at centre-back and Van den Berg would be a smart enough addition if, of course, the budget allows it to be done.
