Chris Wilder has been linked with a return to Sheffield United in recent weeks as the pressure builds on Paul Heckingbottom.
Last week’s 8-0 hammering at the hands of Newcastle has done nothing to tip the balance of favour in Heckingbottom’s favour. For now, the board are still apparently behind the Blades boss heading into this weekend’s clash with West Ham.
And while rumours circle of a Wilder return, former England manager Sam Allardyce has revealed what the ex-United gaffer has had to say on things.
Sam Allardyce says Chris Wilder can’t see Sheffield United return as it stands
Speaking on his No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast alongside Paddy Kenny, Allardyce revealed that he has indeed spoken to Wilder about the job at Bramall Lane.

And at the moment, it seems Wilder is weighing up other options.
“I spoke to Chris this week and he didn’t see any legs in it, you know. So he’s got a couple of interested parties abroad he tells me. He’s got a couple of options abroad that he’s exploring like me,” Allardyce said.
Wilder was last in charge of a club with Watford but he left after a pretty dismal couple of months.
Previously, Wilder lost his job at Middlesbrough as well. He left United on bad terms with the ownership but has apparently, according to Prince Abdullah himself, patched things up.
Sheff U News View: A line needs to be drawn
One way or another the club needs to bring an end to this talk. Whether that be by backing Heckingbottom as they did Wilder in the second season last time, or they do indeed move on to someone else.
For what it’s worth, we don’t really feel like Wilder coming back is the greatest idea. Wilder rode a wave last time when all the stars aligned and since then things have gone south for him.
If Heckingbottom is to go, then a fresher face might be the better option, rather than going over old ground.
