Time has quickly moved on for Slavisa Jokanovic at Sheffield United and the Serbian is making the best use he can out of a squad at Bramall Lane that is missing some key components.
United’s need for natural wingers remains obvious. Despite Morgan Gibbs-White and Ben Osborn doing well, there remains a hope that Jokanovic can bring in a new wide man in January. As we suggested earlier today, Tottenham winger Jack Clarke could be one of those.
Jokanovic was backed in the loan market and brought in Conor Hourihane, Ben Davies, Robin Olsen. The aforementioned Gibbs-White also arrived from Wolves. But one of the players the Blades boss didn’t manage to bring in was Sampdoria and former Leeds midfielder, Ronaldo Vieira.
A deal was all but done for Vieira to sign. Indeed, sources indicate the midfielder was in Sheffield waiting to get the go ahead. However, a failed medical put an end to any move. At the time, there was a sense of disappointment that United had failed to get it over the line.

But, a few months down the line, and it looks like the Sheffield United medical team got things bang on when it comes to Ronaldo Vieira.
Injury Prone
Vieira has struggled with fitness ever since moving to Italy. Indeed, as covered in our chat with Leeds United experts, it seems he’s never kicked on with Sampdoria.
That was obviously something the United team picked up. And since then, they’ve been proven right. Vieira has yet to play this season. Indeed, Transfermarkt lists the 23-year-old as having an unknown return date.
It goes without saying that had Vieira signed for United, this would have been hugely frustrating for Jokanovic, fans, and board. In the end, you have to give credit where it’s due and say we got this one spot on.
For Vieira, he faces another troubled season it seems. After just four Serie A appearances last term, it appears he’s set for another nightmare year.
