Rhian Brewster reveals Ruben Dias as toughest opponent, admits he 'couldn't get a sniff'

Rhian Brewster has endured a difficult time of things since moving to Sheffield United. A full season last term without a goal, then getting injured this year just as he started to fire, means the youngster’s time at Bramall Lane has been hugely frustrating.

Brewster, 21, arrived at United for over £20m when Chris Wilder was manager. At the time, Wilder revealed how he believed the former Liverpool man to be the perfect signing for the Blades.

At the top of the pitch we have one of the country’s hottest properties from Liverpool and for him to sign permanently here is fantastic for everyone concerned,” Wilder commented.

Of course, as we all know, things didn’t go to plan for Brewster under Wilder. He played 22 times under the now ex-United boss, failing to score or assist in any of those games. However, if there is a minor positive to take from the time Rhian got to play in the top-flight with the Blades, it is the fact he came up against some of the world’s very best.

Speaking with former Manchester United winger Angel Gomes on an episode of the Rising Ballers YouTube channel last week, Brewster revealed that it is a Manchester City player who tops his list of toughest opponents.

I’d have to say Ruben Dias. Yeah last year, I couldn’t get a sniff. At Man City we played them away. We played them at home and it was only like 1-0. But we played them away from home, and it was so hard,” Brewster said.

“You know sometimes off defenders you think you might get a little sniff. I didn’t think that one bit. He just got everything. Anything that went over the top he got. And he’s quick you know. I tried turning him once and he was there.”

As we all know, Dias is one of the most accomplished players in the game at the moment. Hopefully, Brewster can take the the lessons learned onboard and become a better player in the long-term.

Rhian Brewster is currently out injured for Sheffield United. He sustained a hamstring injury against Bristol City, and could be out beyond the new year.
